Time to Reflect

Wow! It’s almost time to wave goodbye to yet another year. As I look forward to a few weeks break from writing, I offer you a final post for the year – one that could honestly change your life. 🙂

Depending on your hemisphere, you may be preparing for the summer holidays and some outdoor fun and adventure … or looking forward to cosying up to your family and friends around a log fire and a hearty roast dinner or two!

Either way, I hope you qualify for some much deserved time off work and that you’ll be able to relax and find time to reflect.

You may be surprised to know just how vital such reflection time is.

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

– Viktor E. Frankl

The Quality of Your Life and Your Thoughts

The quality of your life is directly proportional to the quality of your thoughts.

That statement is perhaps more profound than you are likely to give it credit at first pass. After all, you’re probably thinking: “We all have tens of thousands of thoughts every day and there’s no way we can control them!”

Or is there?

“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”

– Abraham Lincoln

The Meaning of Freedom

Freedom, Confidence, Growth.

This is the tagline we use at New Insights. Why? Because we believe these are the main personal attributes that our life coach training and our related life coaching programme can impart, build and develop.

But what exactly does it mean to experience personal freedom?

“The greatest enemy of individual freedom is the individual himself.”

– Saul Alinsky

Let Go of the Control Freak

It’s mid January … and at about this time you may be feeling that the warm glow of the holiday season is rapidly wearing off and you’re beginning to settle back into that dreaded ‘business as usual’ routine – some call it a rut!

During breaks, life typically takes on more of a ‘freeform’ nature than at other times. You get the chance to relax, drop your guard and reflect on who you are, where you’re at, where you want to be and and what you really want from life.

Then, just as you’re beginning to enjoy the feeling, it’s time to stop dreaming and get back to work. For many, sadly, that means getting back on the ‘treadmill’ of daily life  and hanging in there until the next break emerges – mercifully – on the horizon!

“If you want real control, drop the illusion of control. Let life live you. It does anyway.”

– Byron Katie

2016 – A Year of Change

This will be the last Life Coaching Insights Blog Post for 2016 as I join many of you esteemed readers in taking a well deserved break for a few weeks!

As the year draws to a close there will surely be no lack of pronouncements by the various media on how it, and the various events that characterised it, stacked up in importance to – and affect on – the human race.

Here’s how I see it:

“The new year will be like the old one if you keep on doing the same old things.”

– Jean-Paul Malfatti

A Letter of Thanks

The power of living with gratitude is something stressed by most, if not all of the world’s top self-development professionals.

They say it plays a vital role in the development of an abundance mentality, or a mindset that allows and encourages the flow of positive vibrations and energy that ultimately helps one to attract and manifest a richer and more rewarding life.

But those who have fallen on hard times or been beset with tough life challenges may be forgiven for holding a degree of scepticism about what these mostly very successful and wealthy gurus have to say.

“It’s alright for them,” you can hear these types mutter, “Practising gratitude comes naturally when you have it all already.”

So do we have a classic chicken and egg conundrum here?

“Be grateful … It’s the only totally reliable get-rich-quick scheme.”

– Ben Stein
