In fact, we cracked their top 20, being placed 18th – a great honour indeed.

One of the main criteria for this award was quality and consistency of the content posted.

That got me thinking …

The Comparison Trap

We are all totally unique individuals.

Even though more than seven billion of us coexist on the planet, no two people are identical. And even if it were possible to create two genetically identical human beings, they would develop unique characters in response to the unique environment, upbringing and events that they would be exposed to throughout their lives.

You might think that because of this, we humans would relish our unique identities and life tracks and be not only tolerant but appreciative and graciously admiring of the paths and achievements of others.

And yet, we humans are prone to a condition that clouds our thinking, detracts from our vitality and saps our ability to enjoy the uniqueness of our own lives.

That condition is envy or jealousy.

“Comparing yourself to others is an act of violence against your authentic self.”

– Iyanla Vanzandt

Financial Abundance (Part 2)

In Part 1 of this post, we explored the idea that the biggest obstacle to enjoying financial abundance lies in the beliefs one holds about the subject of money, wealth and abundance.

Although at a conscious level you may feel that you are doing everything possible to achieve prosperity, there may be limiting beliefs ‘imprinted’ in your subconscious mind that are ’sabotaging’ your best efforts.

Simply put, there is cause (limiting beliefs about money) and resulting effect (lack of financial abundance).

For example, parents who struggled financially throughout life and who embodied a type of ‘poverty’ mentality to help them cope, may unwittingly have created the environment for their children to develop ‘imprints’ or subconsciously held beliefs that they too would always be destined to  struggle financially.

Let’s look at what it takes to achieve financial abundance.

“True abundance is not about what you have. It is about your state of mind!”

Financial Abundance (Part 1)

‘Money makes the world go round’ is a saying that originated from the musical ‘Cabaret’ written in the 1960s.

The implication of the saying is that without money everything in our world would come to a crashing halt – and given our total dependence on it as a means of exchange, that’s a notion that’s hard to argue against!

At New Insights we like to think of money as an enabler. When used wisely and effectively it can help to bring about a better quality of life. So a healthy relationship with money is when you see it as a means to an end, rather than an end in itself.

Sadly, for most of the population of this world, procuring sufficient money to enjoy the most basic standard of living is an ongoing daily battle.

There’s no doubt that massive manipulation and corruption, driven by vested interests and obscene greed have a big part to play in this sorry state of affairs. But this alone cannot explain why people from similar backgrounds and with similar opportunities often experience polar opposite levels of financial abundance.

So, what is it that stops some people from enjoying financial abundance in their lives, when others in their their peer group fare much better?

“Plant seeds of happiness, hope, success, and love; it will all come back to you in abundance. This is the law of nature.”

– Steve Maraboli

Best work from home opportunity?

Most life coaches that I know choose to work from home as it makes sense from both a practical and financial perspective.

It is true that there are relatively few traditional employment opportunities for life coaches and some would say this is what drives them to set up their own practices and work from home.

However, I am inclined to argue the reverse cause and effect.

In other words, the vast majority of life coaches shun traditional employment, preferring the flexibility that comes from running their own coaching practices. As a consequence any corporate opportunities tend to be contracted out rather than serviced in house.

Wealth, Success and Spirituality

Traditionally we are accustomed to seeing the pursuit of success and wealth as completely divergent from the path of self-development and spirituality. Consciously or subconsciously we tend to divide our pursuits into two broad categories: inner development and outer achievement. But when we take a closer look, we see that both pursuits can be aspects of the same path.

My thanks go to Devin Iyer, my friend and erstwhile business partner, who wrote this intriguing article for this week’s Blog post. You can find out more about Devin and how to contact him, at the bottom of the post.
