Life Coaching Opens Eyes

Home » Life Coaching Opens Eyes

Life coaching can be described or explained in many ways.

Here’s one description that I coined:

“Life coaching involves a programme of sessions or mini-interventions that help empower individuals to grow and develop rapidly through exposure to tools and techniques that assist them to open their eyes to what really is possible for them to be do and have.”

What I like about this particular description is the reference to the ‘opening of eyes’ that takes place during coaching.

Effective life coaching can bring about dramatically positive changes in the lives of people simply by getting them to see themselves and the world around them from bright and exciting new perspectives.

Special gifts

At New Insights we believe that every person comes into this world with two very special – some would say divine – gifts, namely an open mind and a free will.

These attributes are the fundamental building blocks required for a person to create the life that he or she wishes to experience. And that’s exactly what we believe is every person’s basic right.

The human influence

But things are not quite as simple as they were perhaps meant to be.

Clearly, we do not exist in a vacuum. We are heavily exposed to the influences of the seven billion other mortals with whom we share this planet.

In particular, we are influenced by our parents, families and educators but also our communities, religious, political and business leaders as well as society in general.

Preconditioning

We may, in theory, have been granted the luxury of a blank canvas when it comes to choosing our character traits, what we believe in, what we value and the approach we take to life in general.

In practice, however, many of us enter adulthood with a form of preconditioning – a system of beliefs and values that have been imposed on us by those influencing parties.

This ‘preconditioning’ as I call it is usually very well intended. Most parents and teachers will do everything in their power to impart beliefs and values, and encourage actions and behaviours that they feel will give their children the best chance at a decent life.

Nevertheless, the judgement of well meaning loved ones remains subjective, often strongly influenced by their own past preconditioning.

In some unfortunate cases, youngsters can be exposed to a form of ‘preconditioning’ that is deliberately manipulative, serving the ends of the influencers, rather than the best interests of the developing individual.

Whether well intended or not, this preconditioning can and does have a powerful effect on the rest of our lives.

The beliefs, values, character traits and general behaviours that we are influenced to adopt in our formative years are often very resistant to change in later life.

Destiny … or?

In many cases, we come to accept that what we have been taught to believe and value as well as the paths we have been encouraged to follow are ‘ordained’ or ‘part of our destiny’ and cannot be changed, even though in our heart of hearts, we may desire something different for ourselves.

Opening the eyes

The value of life coaching lies in its ability to ‘open the eyes’ of an individual to the existence of this preconditioning and to help that person search within to establish what sort of life he or she truly wants to experience.

This is done in an inspiring, caring and completely non-judgemental environment.

Coaching then helps the individual concerned reflect on and decide whether his or her beliefs, values and general behaviours serve to empower or disempower him or her in achieving the life he or she desires.

The next step is to show the person how to dismantle the preconditioning that he or she judges to be disempowering and to help build new beliefs, values and a behaviour set that will support and promote the achievement of the desired life.

Liberating and exciting

The process is both liberating and exciting as those being coached learn how to take back control of – and responsibility for – their precious lives.

Ultimately, the process aims to help the client to connect with his or her inner being and to uncover the very purpose that he or she is here on earth to fulfill.

Exercising free will

With a mind that is once again open to the sheer magnificence of life and its endless opportunities, the individual can then exercise the free will of his or her birthright to create the life he or she desires and deserves.

Life coaching: simple in concept, yet amazingly powerful in its application!

  1. There are two gifts that I receive each time I coach effectively. The first, is that I feel fulfilled when I see the way in which it empowers my clients to unleash their limitless potential. The second, is that I am also presented with an infinite number of opportunities to learn and grow during each session.

The most reassuring aspect about life coaching for a prospective new client, is that it is confidential and conducted in a non-threatening environment.

  2. Thanks Bill,
Congratulations, you truly deserve the award. The blog is always so encouraging and helpful.

  4. Well expressed, the enlightenment through life coaching changes lives. So sad that many people have failed to find this path yet it answers all our life challenges
