Time to Reflect

Wow! It’s almost time to wave goodbye to yet another year. As I look forward to a few weeks break from writing, I offer you a final post for the year – one that could honestly change your life. 🙂

Depending on your hemisphere, you may be preparing for the summer holidays and some outdoor fun and adventure … or looking forward to cosying up to your family and friends around a log fire and a hearty roast dinner or two!

Either way, I hope you qualify for some much deserved time off work and that you’ll be able to relax and find time to reflect.

You may be surprised to know just how vital such reflection time is.

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

– Viktor E. Frankl

Stuck In a Rut?

Life coaching is particularly effective for those people who, though mentally well and fully functional, are simply ‘stuck in a rut’!

Let’s face it, we all have that stuck feeling at some stage of other in our lives. But that’s not to say that it isn’t hugely frustrating and debilitating while it lasts.

So what’s the cause of it and what’s the best strategy for getting out of a rut?

“When we are stuck in a rut we are being invited to grow and expand.”

― Dana Arcur

Being a People Pleaser

Be honest. Are you a people pleaser?

There’s no reason to be shy in owning up to this practice as you would be one among very many.

And as we all know people pleasers are just the nicest of people. They will go out of their way to help – or meet what they perceive to be the demands or requirements – of others and to say what they think others would like to hear.

Viewed from the perspective of those whom they seek to please, nothing seems like too much trouble for them.

So people pleasers are good for the world and we need more of them, surely?

Actually, ‘No’!

“I can’t tell you the key to success but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.”

– Ed Sheeran

Power or Force?

The inspiration for this week’s post comes from my Father’s Day gift – a fascinating book called Power vs Force by David Hawkins.

Let me be frank – the book’s not an easy read. It struck me as a curious and intriguing mix of spirituality, psychology, quantum physics and applied kinesiology.

It’s probably one of those books that you derive so much more out of it the second time round as much of the first time is spent trying to get your mind round various concepts.

Nonetheless, Hawkins shares some quite breathtaking revelations about the human organism’s capacity to distinguish, with absolute accuracy, truth from falsity.

“We change the world not by what we say or do, but as a consequence of what we have become.”

― David R. Hawkins

Choose Your Words Wisely

As much as life coaching aims to reconnect people with their inner beings and revitalise belief in their own power and abilities, it also seeks to enhance their capacity to relate to other people in ways that are mutually beneficial.

The New Insights life coaching system includes wonderful sessions on communication, building rapport and understanding the profound effect that our spoken and written words can have on others.

Numerous inspirational writings that are used to help underpin and contextualise the transformational change that our coaches bring about for their clients.

I have a favourite writing that really brings home the importance of choosing one’s words carefully and with good grace …

“Learn the language of your heart and say the words – they mean more to someone than you will ever know.”

– Anonymous
