Being a People Pleaser

Be honest. Are you a people pleaser?

There’s no reason to be shy in owning up to this practice as you would be one among very many.

And as we all know people pleasers are just the nicest of people. They will go out of their way to help – or meet what they perceive to be the demands or requirements – of others and to say what they think others would like to hear.

Viewed from the perspective of those whom they seek to please, nothing seems like too much trouble for them.

So people pleasers are good for the world and we need more of them, surely?

Actually, ‘No’!

“I can’t tell you the key to success but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.”

– Ed Sheeran

Wealth, Success and Spirituality

Traditionally we are accustomed to seeing the pursuit of success and wealth as completely divergent from the path of self-development and spirituality. Consciously or subconsciously we tend to divide our pursuits into two broad categories: inner development and outer achievement. But when we take a closer look, we see that both pursuits can be aspects of the same path.

My thanks go to Devin Iyer, my friend and erstwhile business partner, who wrote this intriguing article for this week’s Blog post. You can find out more about Devin and how to contact him, at the bottom of the post.

True Happiness

Are you one of those whose life looks good on the outside … but doesn’t feel too great on the inside?

It’s a sad fact that a great number of us have come to accept that our lives are only as good as we think they look to other people.

This ingrained belief – that we are only as good as other people think we are, or that success is a relative thing to be measured by how we stack up against our peer group – is the root cause of many of the problems we experience.

On the flip side of the coin, by developing what I like to call an ‘internal motivation’ you can quickly come to derive greater meaning, happiness and fulfillment from life.

“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”

― Dalai Lama XIV

Rules for Success

Success! It’s something we all yearn for. But what exactly is it and why do so many of us find it so hard to achieve?

The answer lies partly in the way we define ‘success’. You can read my thoughts on this in a previous post titled The Secret to Success.

It also has a lot to do with the rules we set for allowing ourselves to feel successful.

“Don’t aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.”

Fear of Failure – Really?

The business of New Insights is in training, developing and inspiring individuals to become life coaches and, in so doing, bring freedom, confidence and growth to people from all walks of life.

Our certification programme is not ‘easy’. If it were, it would lack credibility and constitute a disservice to those who have qualified through us.

Having said that though, it is certainly very achievable for anyone with integrity, a passion for people, an open mind and a desire to learn about human motivation.

The main obstacle to success rarely has anything to do with lack of intellect, qualifications, talent, money or other resources. The main stumbling block is inevitably the mindset.

Even the most capable people are prone to procrastination, often due to an underlying fear of failure.

“In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.”

– Bill Cosby

And yet, failure is a purely subjective concept. When we come to understand that, we realise just what a waste of time and energy fear of failure represents.

With the holiday season and a whole new year not far off, I thought you might derive inspiration from knowing that some of the most amazingly successful people started out as what many of us would term ‘failures’.
